Grace Youth Ministry

GYM activities include:

Sunday Afternoon Meetings – Most Sundays during the school year, we meet at church for an hour and a half of snacks, fellowship, games, and learning.

Special Events – Occasionally, we have themed or activity-centered events. These have included:

• Movie Nights

• Service Projects/Outreach – like Christmas Caroling, Christmas Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, and Church Clean-Up

• Off-Site Events – like roller skating, bowling, and mini-golf

Retreats – During the year, we take opportunities to get away from our regular schedules and focus on our faith and fellowship as a group. We have done Ski Retreats at various locations for many years. We also do a Beach Retreat at the Isle of Palms.

Mission Trip – Most summers, we do a mission trip. In 2019, we participated in a week of WOW Urban Ministries, a program hosted by St. John’s Lutheran in Knoxville, TN.

SC Synod Lutheran Church Youth Events – The South Carolina Synod hosts grade-level based retreats throughout the year, as well as a once-a-year convention for all Youth. As part of the Synod, we participate in their events when we are able. These events give Youth the opportunity to meet other Lutherans from around the Synod and to build relationships in the larger church community.

ELCA Youth Gathering – Every 3 years, the ELCA hosts a “Gathering” of Youth from across the US and from other parts of the globe. Nearly 30,000 Youth and Adult Leaders come together for service learning, worship, interactive learning, speakers, music, and fellowship. This event is for high school youth, and is often cited as a life-changing faith experience by those who attend.

The next ELCA Gathering is summer 2021 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
